Kate Henshaw gushes over AMAA nod, hails Kunle Afolayan’s impact

Kate Henshaw has praised Kunle Afolayan for “pushing” her during the filming of ‘Roti’, a movie which earned her an Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nomination.

Henshaw is nominated for best actress in a leading role.

The actress said she resented the filmmaker for being tough on her, but noted that his firmness helped her deliver well on the role.

In an Instagram post, she wrote: “When @kunleafo approached me about the story “ROTI”, he said he wrote it with me in mind, I didn’t believe him… I thought he wanted a discount on my fees.

“Fast forward to last week Friday @amaawards_ nomination night and I found out I was a nominee. Totally unexpected.

“Kunle pushed me and there were times I resented him!! E no send me…He wanted what he wanted.

“@yinka.edward, one of the most gentle and focused cinematographers I know did an awesome job. Uncle Pat Nebo did his usual magic with the set design. Kunle’s son Darisimire was a true actor…. Jamiu, Segun and the rest of the crew were truly amazing.”

Henshaw is nominated alongside Dakore Egbuson, Joselyn Dumas, Reine Swart, Tunde Aladese, among others.

The 2018 AMAA will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, on September 22.
